Forbidden City Cop
Post-screening talk (in Cantonese) with film critic Lam Kam-po

Stephen Chow toplined yet another comedy masterpiece in his 1996 Lunar New Year blockbuster Forbidden City Cop. Chow starred in and co-directed (alongside Vincent Kok) this hilarious swordplay satire about unimposing Imperial constable Ling Ling Fat (Chow), who lacks the supreme kung-fu abilities of his peers. However, Fat’s intelligence and skill as an inventor make him uniquely capable of stopping the wily villains out to kill the Emperor (Cheung Tat-Ming). Besides the jokes and parodies, Forbidden City Cop features a wonderful screen pairing between Chow and Carina Lau, who plays Fat’s affectionate wife. The chemistry with Lau helped Chow to deliver an especially endearing and mature performance. But in the end, it’s still the unexpected sight gags, deadpan silliness and outrageous laughs that make Chow's films the beloved classics that they are!
